This week in ISM, I was able to write two research assessments and finalized the outline for a speech regarding the research we have conducted over the last twelve weeks. We began with having 2 interview assessments due, however, I have not had any since my last interview. This caused me to write 2 more research assessments in place of the 2 missing interview assessments. For these, I decided to research minimally invasive surgeries and heart valve surgeries. Finding both of these articles on the mayo clinic website gave the articles a level of trustworthiness and solidity that is beneficial. The minimally invasive heart surgery article was my favorite out of the 2 just because it pertained more to the future of Cardiothoracic Surgery. Especially the time period when I come into the field because in almost every way this procedure is superior for the surgeon and the patient. I learned a lot about this and then began the research on the heart valve procedure. This is a procedure that is a lot more commonplace and a lot older. With minimal changes in its methods since the conception of the procedure, there is not much innovation to be made other than the use of 3D printing to make the replacement valve. Otherwise, medicine and science have hit a metaphorical ceiling. Lastly, I made and finalized the outline for my research speech. This entailed going through and looking at all of my most important research and organizing it in a way that it flows and makes sense. I listed off the research in order but skipping research assessment 5 due to its lack of overall importance to my topic. Now I must make the actual speech and start preparing for the presentation Thursday.
