The heart is one of the most important organs in the body. Other than the brain, there is really no other organ that is working 24 hours a day, 7 times a week, for as many days as a human is alive. However, this resilient muscle can be overworked to a point of failure. Through bad lifestyle practices, like lack of exercise or unhealthy dieting, there can be blockages in the veins of the circulatory system. This causes the heart to have to work harder to pump blood throughout the whole body. Due to the fact that I am in the process of deciding what my final project is going to be, I have been conducting a lot of research on the topic of exercise and diet to improve heart health. The first EOL looked into the dietary aspect, last EOL the exercise aspect, and this EOL delves into the diet aspect of heart health once again. The amazing thing about dieting is that it one of the easiest methods of improving heart health. Unlike exercise there is no physical exertion. All that is necessary is the effort that needs to be put into eating healthy. However, there is a lot of misinformation online and that can make it tough for people who are seeking the life altering information that could help improve themselves. In an article called “20 Foods That Can Save Your Heart”, published by Webmd, there are detailed descriptions and explanations of 20 foods that can be used to grow and maintain heart health. And this can be as huge part of the diet subcategory of my final product.

The article begins with listing out all of the 20 foods that are being discussed. Fresh herbs, black beans, red wine and resveratrol, salmon, tuna, olive oil, walnuts, almonds, edamame, tofu, sweet potato, oranges, swiss chard, barley, oatmeal, flaxseed, low fat yogurt, sterol based foods, cherrys, and blueberries. Now most of these are well known foods that a lot of people can easily obtain. But there are a few that were foreign to me. Namely resveratrol, edamame, swiss chard, flaxseed, and sterol based foods. These might be a little more obscure in the eyes of the public, but can all be found at any local grocery store. It might just take a little more effort to find. This is a lot less effort to exert for good heart health in comparison to exercise. It is more critical now more than ever to include good diet as a daily part of people's lives.

Next the article details the advantages of each of the 20 foods that are presented. Some of the interesting advantages I observed was the use of herbs as a healthier substitute for sugar and salts, the health benefits of red wine due to antioxidants,, good cholesterol from the nuts and olive oil, and all the fiber contained in almost all of the options. With good cholesterol, antioxidants, fiber, and omega 3 being the main parts of the foods that are going to help promote heart health. It is critical that individuals start to take not of these foods, especially in the more mature age spectrum. Food is one of the only things that can be done at that stage of life due to body limitations. Controlling that one part of life can almost guarantee a longer and easier life. Starting earlier in life can also have these effects, but if coupled with exercise it is almost a sure fire way to have a healthier heart. With my focus being mainly on diet, exercise, and resting practices this will be one of the three major parts of the system.

In conclusion, diet is one of the few things people can do to help improve and maintain their heart health. With the rising rates of obesity, heart disease, and deaths caused by heart related conditions this should be one of the critical parts of the everyones futures if they want to live healthier lives and live longer in general. With a bigger focus on consuming healthier food options that have an abundance of good cholesterol, antioxidants, fiber, and omega 3, there will be noticeably better health for anyone that eats healthy regularly. Hopefully, this knowledge will help me create a final product that can not only help improve the lives of many but also possibly, in the long run, save lives.
