This week in ISM, I began contacting professionals in our field. Using the contact list we constructed throughout the prior weeks I was able to have the phone numbers of some the best Cardiothoracic Surgeons in all of Dallas. I was able to contact the majority of surgeons on my list with responses from assistants. If I do not get any further responses, before Monday, September 11th, I plan on calling again and requesting an interview once again. Along with this, I plan on contacting the rest of the surgeons on my list. My goal is to find a mentor that is a good fit for me in terms of their expertise with Cardiothoracic Surgeons as well as their knowledge of the future of the field and the technologies that will be developed to advance it. My ideas for a final project are beginning to revolve around innovations regarding pacemakers or the advancement of the use of 3D printing in the field. And I know with the right mentor I will be able to produce a final project that will not only be well thought out but also something that will be informative and helpful. I not only want to educate people who are currently experiencing heart and chest related issues, but to also inform and warn a younger generation that could one day be facing such issues. So, that one day we may have a future that has to endure less of the issues that my grandparents have had to deal with throughout their lives.
